Tango Workshops with Maximiliano Gluzman

Friday-Sunday, June 13-15, 2008

Bio           Schedule           Registration

Dear friends,

We are more than happy to host Maxi again in DC during the second week of June.  Maxi is our BA connection.  He goes out and interacts with the old milongueros (70+), learns from them by either observing them or teaching with them, and conveys to his students across the globe all the great secrets these legends have to offer.

We met Maxi several years ago at a tango festival in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since then, we have benefited greatly from studying with him and learning the nuances of social tango mastered by the old milongueros.  Thanks to him, we have been able to enjoy the tango in a more profound way.  So, we hope you will take advantage of his visit, and learn from this talented and friendly young milonguero.

We look forward to seeing you.

Mehmet & Linda

Maxi's Bio

Maximiliano Gluzman is a tango dancer and teacher from Buenos Aires, where he lives and dances, and one of the few in his generation that is dedicated to continuing the tradition of the great porteño milongueros.

Maximiliano Gluzman started dancing in 1997. He soon discovered social tango and studied with renowned teachers, among them Tete, Pocho and Neli, Susana Miller, Ana Maria Schapira, Ricardo Vidort and Jorge Kero. His main source of knowledge has been, however, dancing and watching the old milongueros of Buenos Aires for endless hours. This, plus the fact that he has made teaching the main activity in his career as a dancer, has led him to develop a pedagogical style that allows him to translate this knowledge across language and cultural barriers.

He has participated in international festivals such as Zurich Tangowoche (2005, 2006 and 2007), Master Tango Sicilia (2006), Michigan 5th. Anniversary (2006), Ann Arbor May Madness (2007), Capri Island World Tango Festival (2007), Milongueando en Buenos Aires (2007) and has given workshops, seminars and lessons in Argentina, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany and the USA.

During 2008 he will be teaching in across the US and Europe.

Friday June 13, 2008

8:00pm – 9:00pm
Looking Good, Feeling Better!
All Levels

In this lesson we will work on some key techniques, such as balance and communication, intended for a dance that does not only look good, but also - and most importantly - feels better to our partners.

Saturday June 14, 2008

Sunday June 15, 2008

1:00pm – 3:00pm
Milonguero/a and the dance floor?
All Levels

In this lesson, we will explore the meaning of space in social tango. The tango couple "travels" around the dance floor, moving in a direction chosen by the leader (or chosen for the leader by the dance floor).

Our main goal in this lesson is to consciously use the space available to navigate the dance floor with ease and precision. But beyond this minimum, we will delve into the energy of movement and its musical meaning, to make the best of our space - even if the dance floor is empty.

1:00pm – 3:00pm
Infinite Possibilities
 Int & Adv

The combination in the different forward walks  is infinite. In this lesson we will take a small portion of those infinite possibilities and use them both to create new options as well as to perfect our walking basics.

3:15pm – 5:15pm
Musicality for the next level
Beg & Int

Musicality Basics. Technical perfection is not yet perfect dancing - in fact it may not be dancing at all unless it is fueled by the flow of the music! In this lesson we are going to study how to find and follow this "flow", what to listen to, and what to do about it!

3:15pm – 5:15pm
"Cadencia - a must to develop the milonguero/a in you"
 Int & Adv

Cadencia. One of the elusive concepts that old milongueros talk about, the "cadencia" fills the abstract concepts of technique with life and music. In this lesson we will start exploring how our bodies can play beyond the steps.
